Why positive thinking does not work for you
7 Mind Secrets series

“Be positive. Think positive.” I am sure you must have heard or read these sentences a number of times by now. You might also have done a number of courses on self-growth.

As long as the course lasted you must have felt wonderful. Or as long as you read that article or book about positive thinking you must have felt at top of the world. Nothing seemed impossible. You believed you could achieve everything. Life seemed very much within your control.

But then a problem or series of misfortunes had hit you. An everyday human issue like your co-worker misbehaved once again with you. Your boss scolded you for no fault of yours. You went for public speaking on the stage and suddenly became tongue-tied.

You lost your job because of bad economy. You could not clear that all-important interview. You realized your partner had cheated you of ten lakh rupees.

You had an accident involving a huge drain on your resources to repair your body or your vehicle. Your bank manager reminded you of funds shortage in your account once again.

Your spouse nagged you endlessly. Your child flunked his exams. Your mother and wife again quarreled. You found your boy friend was two timing you. Your girl friend ditched you suddenly.  Your parents refused point blank for your love marriage. Your closest friend succumbed to cancer. The list can go on and on. It is endless.

You must have realized in such situations that no amount of positive thinking was happening at that time. Even though you tried your best to be cheerful, it just was not there. It deserted you when you needed it the most.

So you realize by now that positive thinking is something that does not happen by itself just because you "know" about it, "believe" in it or have done some courses on it. Like everything else important in life, it too needs to be practiced, practiced and still practiced more through your daily actions.

It is like the sun rising every day in your life without fail, every day, every day and still every day.

In my next blog I'll share some really good stuff on this subject.

Break the cycle of pessimism; start actually practicing what you have learnt theoretically . You have nothing to lose other than your negativity! Do it now
